Rudolph Howard "Rudy" Voxland, age 90 of Virginia died Sunday, February 26, 2012 in the Virginia Convalescent Care Center. He was born May 17, 1921 on a farm near Kenyon, MN the son of Herman and Rachel (Hostager) Voxland and was a 1940 graduate of Kenyon High School. Rudy enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1942 and served in the European Theatre of Operations Company L, 60th infantry regiment, 9th Infantry Division, under the command of General George Patton. He was discharged on April 8, 1946. Rudy graduated from the University of Minnesota in 19050 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education. He married Ruth Mahlman Lillesve on January 7, 1951 in Kenyon. Rudy taught in Maiden Rock, WI and later in Zumbrota, MN. He completed his Master's Degree in 1958 and accepted a teaching position at the Virginia Junior College. Later he was assigned to the College Library as the Audio-Visual Department Head. Rudy retired in 1985 with 27 years with the College and a total of 33 years of teaching. In retirement, Rudy and Ruth enjoyed traveling. They also spent a lot of time fishing, boating and enjoying the cabin. Rudy loved to garden to grow tomatoes and vegetables. He also volunteered at St. Michaels helping with popcorn making and bingo. Rudy devoted his life to his faith, family, and friends. His smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Rudy is survived by his daughter: Nancy (Charlie) Eichholz of Lake Vermilion, siblings: Evilyn (Charlie) Abendschein, Ruth Cramer, and Clifford (Delores) Voxland all of Kenyon, MN; son-in-law: Richard Forsberg of Destin, FL; grandchildren: Jeff Rosati of Duluth; Diahnn ( Gerald) McCullagh of St. Louis Park, MN, Gary (Rhonda) Forsberg of St. Joseph, MO; great-grandchildren: Danee McCullagh, Michael and Lauren Forsberg; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Ruth; children: Gary Lillesve and Barbara Forsberg; and brother: Gerhard Voxland.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate. Spring interment will take place in the Kenyon Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Virginia Servicemen's Honor Guard.
Memorials are preferred to the Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church Chapel project.
