Sharen Mae Kivimaki 69 years, 3 months & 2 days…died at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 14 at Washington Manor. Sharen was born to Elmer & Laura Mae (Lokinen) Kivimaki on December 12, 1947 in Virginia, MN. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Monday, March 20, with visitation one hour prior, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Virginia where Sharen was an active, participating member. Pastor Brad Felix will officiate.

Sharen graduated from Roosevelt High School, Virginia & Bemidji State. On April 27th, 1985, she married James Nelson at Salem English Lutheran Church, Minneapolis & even renewed vows April 27th, 2015 at Trinity.

Sharen Worked in Bremerton Washington as Director for a Battered Women Shelter and later as Social/Child Protection Worker for Saint Louis and Hennepin Counties. Upon returning to the Range she worked for Homes, Inc. and DRCC in Virginia. After retiring from Social Work she worked part-time at Fingerhut for many years. She loved stuffed-animals, singing (in 8 different languages), birds, reading, enjoying friends & adventuring with her husband Jimmy (North Shore was her favorite) & was even writing a book. Sharon had a special gift for working with and championing the cause, of mentally-challenged youth and adults. She was a very giving compassionate person and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sharen is survived by husband Jimmy Kivimaki & preceded in death by her parents.
