Stanley C. Bakken, age 76, longtime resident of Hibbing went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 13, 2010 in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 6, 1934 in Goodridge, MN the son of Alvin and Barbara (Folkedahl) Bakken. He was united in marriage to Beverly Moen on June 10, 1961, in Oklee, MN.
Stanley worked for M.A. Hanna Mining Co. at several mines, and at National Steel Pellet Co. for more than 42 years. He was a truck driver and welder. Stanley also had a residential welding business and did auto-body work. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing, the Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge #058, and the NRA. He loved spending time with his family, granddaughters and great-grandsons. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Goodridge – his second favorite place to be. He enjoyed fishing, and hunting waterfowl and deer.
Stanley is survived by his wife: Beverly; his daughter: Carol Nelson of Hibbing; 2 granddaughters: Tiffany Nelson and Cardeay Nelson; and 2 great-grandsons: Tyler and Thomas Nelson; 2 brothers: Clarence Bakken of Nashwauk, and Marvin (Janyce) Bakken of Goodridge, MN; 2 sisters: Janice (Laverne) Vraa of So. Milwaukee, WI, and Marion (Jerry) Wolf of Faribault, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Alan Bakken; a sister: Marlys Bakken; and a sister-in-law: Dola Bakken.
Visitation will be Monday August 16, 2010 from 6-8pm in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will continue from 11:00 am until the 12:00 noon service Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in the Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Steven Breitbarth will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
