Stella Bigo, age 61, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, in the Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. She was born October 12, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MN, the daughter of Mike and Dorothy (Pochucha) Bigo. She graduated from Hibbing High School and went on to attend Hibbing Jr. College and Bemidji State University where she received a degree in Elementary Education.
Stella was a long time director of Homes Inc.. Previously she had taught elementary school children in Cass Lake. She was a member of St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing, was the district secretary for Al-Anon, and was involved with the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life. Stella dedicated her life to helping others. She enjoyed growing flowers, sewing, craft making, and spending time with her family and friends.
Stella is survived by her mother: Dorothy of Hibbing; her stepson: Patrick (Nici) Akins and their children, Kloe and Karli of Egan, MN; her brother: Milan (Debbi) Bigo, their children Mike (Monica) Bigo (and children, Mikayla, Miley, and Madison), and Ashley (fiancée Andy Mika) Bigo (and their daughter, Sienna), all of Ashland, WI; and her sister: Jean (Keith) Elmquist and their children Lindsay (Ted) Scearcy, Aaron Elmquist, and Emily Elmquist all of Hibbing, MN; and her beloved pet, Maisy.
She was preceded in death by her father: Mike; her brother: George; and her stepdaughter: Tara.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm funeral service Friday, January 27, 2012, in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Vladamir Lange and the Very Reverend Bogdan Zjalic will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
