Steven Jon Gillitzer, age 67, longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic house fire. He was born May 4, 1950 in Bemidji, MN the son of Herbert and Doris (Stern) Gillitzer. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School and the Hibbing Community College where he received his Paramedic Certification. Steve was united in marriage to Patricia L. Ziegler on October 9, 1976 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle, MN.

Steve worked as a Firefighter and Paramedic for the Hibbing Fire Department – retiring in 2000. Following his retirement he worked part time for the Library driving the Bookmobile, and for the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, bicycling, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, and reading. He was active with the IRC Adventure Club.

Steve is survived by his children: Todd (Kristen) Gillitzer of Hibbing, Abby (Sam) Adams of Hibbing, and Terry (Dawn) Gillitzer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; his mother: Doris Gillitzer of Virginia, MN; grandchildren: Jonathan Gillitzer, Behryn Gillitzer, Eli Peterlin, Chaym Adams, and Zaraely Adams; siblings: Gail Gillitzer of Champlin, MN, Jana (Tom) Vucetich of Hibbing, MN, Bob Gillitzer of Phoenix, AZ, Mick (Michelle) Gillitzer of Grapevine, TX, Julie (Glen) Dahn of Prior Lake, MN, and Joe (Debbie) Gillitzer of Hibbing, MN; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; his wife: Patricia; and grandchildren: Todd Jacob Gillitzer, Jr., and Isaiah A. Adams.

A Celebration of life for Steve and Pat will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 1-3 pm at the Hibbing Armory. A brief service will begin at 1 with the gathering of friends and family to follow. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Gillitzer/Adams account at Wells Fargo.
