Biography

Thomas Edward Tupa, age 75, of Pengilly and longtime resident of the Iron Range, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. He was born October 5, 1936 in Hibbing, the son of Bernhard and Charlotte (Andrews) Ylatupa – later Tupa. He attended Hibbing High School. Tom was united in marriage to Ruby Matsen October 13, 1957 in Hibbing.
Tom worked a variety of jobs, often working as a truck driver. He retired from working maintenance at the Irongate Mall in Hibbing. He enjoyed collecting cars.
Tom is survived by his children: Robert (Becky) Tupa of Hibbing, Rick Tupa of Virginia, Randy (Polly) Tupa of Virginia, Rhonda (Steven) Dolinsky of Virginia, and Tim (Kelli) Tupa of Kelly Lake; siblings: Florence Mattingly of Centervill, MD, and Ken (Sally) Tupa of Merrill, WI; sister-in-law: Loretta Tupa of Hibbing; brother-in-law: Larry Hicks of Troup, TX; eight grandchildren: Kristin Zahorik, Mathew Gaige, April Tupa, Amanda Tupa, Julie Tupa, Adam Tupa, Travis Tupa, and Aleda McCue; five great-grandchildren: Blaize, Cala, Caden, Aaliyah, and Carly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Service Friday, October 14, 2011 in the Wesley United Methodist Church, in Hibbing. The Reverend Terry Tilton will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
