Timothy A. Ramsay
Timothy Andrew Ramsay, 24, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.
He was born Feb. 25, 1986, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., to Charles and Elizabeth Ramsay of Virginia. At an early age, Tim was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder, with autistic traits, and dealt with many physical and mental challenges in his life. He moved with his family to New Jersey, New York, Florida and Iowa before coming to the Range at the age of nine. With the help and love of his mother, Elizabeth, he moved past barriers that can hinder many, by acquiring verbal and cognitive skills, and with the assistance of dedicated teachers and aides in New York and Minnesota, blossomed into a talented artist and positive representative of what disabled persons can achieve. Tim made many friends in the Virginia Schools special education program, graduating in 2005, and went on to work and live at the Range Center in Chisholm. Some of Tim's proudest moments came last year, when he rode as a disabled representative in the Hibbing parade in July. He received an award for painting one of five works chosen and reproduced on posters as part of a Minnesota awareness campaign aimed at employers, educators, social services providers and the general public. He walked with the Lord from an early age, and his Christmas card paintings were a joy and a delight to see. Nowhere was Tim happier to be than at the home of "Granddad," his grandfather Calvin Horvath, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Tim was always quick to find answers to television game shows, and loved to follow any and every "Christmas Carol" version that could be found on TV. In some areas his knowledge of topics was remarkable. He loved his special pets, canines Sammy and Chipper and parrot Kumba.
Tim will be missed by his former school classmates; housemates and staffers at ESI; and fellow clients and staffers at the Range Center in Chisholm and the SoHo Art Gallery in Hibbing. Special thanks go his doctors, Peder Svingen and Ernest Peasley, and everyone who helped Tim make a difference in the lives of others.
Survivors include his parents; his brother, Joe; aunts, Mary Gee Murray and Diane Ramsay; uncle, Bill (Kathy) Ramsay; cousins, Cindy (Mark) Radovic, Scott (Amy) Ramsay, Jeff Ramsay and Shawn Murray; grandfather, Clifford (Marge) Ramsay; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Calvin Horvath, in 2007; grandmothers, Mary Horvath in 1983 and Betty Ramsay in 1975; and great-grandparents, especially Meta Ramsay, who he came to know and love.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, with the Rev. John O'Donnell as celebrant and the Rev. Gabriel Waweru of Blessed Sacrament parish in Hibbing as concelebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service Tuesday at the church. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Memorial services will be held later in the year on the East Coast and Wisconsin.
