Tory Ann Hopper Peterson, age 41, of Virginia died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in her home, with her family by her side, after a brave battle with brain cancer. She was born April 24, 1968 in Rockland, Maine, the daughter of James E. and Alaide (Steeves) Hopper, Jr. She was a 1986 graduate of Virginia Roosevelt High School, Mesabi Range College earning an AA degree, and Hibbing Community College with a degree in Culinary Arts. Tory Ann lived in Maine, Rhode Island, California, the state of Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut prior to moving to Virginia in 1980. She was employed by Range Mental Health at the Bell Building as a Food Service Technician; and a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Tory was active in Girl Scouting, and was Past Honored Queen of Bethel #6 of the International Order of Jobs Daughters. She was an avid outdoorswoman who loved hunting and camping. Tory cherished the time she spent with her girls, and her family.
Tory Ann is survived by her daughters: Shania & Marissa Peterson; her parents: James and Alaide Hopper of Virginia; the father of her children: Boyd Peterson of Eveleth; siblings: Tammy Childs of Virginia, James (Jennifer) Hopper III of Eveleth, and Teresa Hopper of Hibbing; nieces and nephew: Garret Hopper, Autumn Hopper, & Jordanna Childs; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; former in-laws: Sally (Phil) Carlson of Las Vegas and Larry (Theo) Peterson of Brooklyn Center, MN; and significant other: Erick Sherman of the state of Washington.
She was preceded in death by grandparents: Lucille Hopper Harrington, James "Bud" Hopper, Sr., Edna Steeves, and Charles Steeves.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate.
Casketbearers will be: Boyd Peterson, James Hopper, Jr., James Hopper, III, Raymond Childs, David Woitel, and Scott Peterson,
Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Care Partners, Range Mental Health Bell Building, or the American Cancer Society.
