Vergine R. Lanska, age 90, a longtime resident of Hibbing and formerly of Virginia and Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, MN. She was born July 23, 1918 in Lake Bronson, MN, the daughter of Harry E. and Ruth Amy (Johnson) Dow. She was a graduate of Thief River Falls High School. On November 15, 1942 she married Bernard Lanska in Thief River Falls.
Vergine was a member of Hibbing Alliance Church where she was also involved in The Alliance Women. She was also a member of Gideons. Vergine served as a Sunday School Teacher and Good News Club Leader. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, traveling, and Friday night game night.
She is survived by five sons, Rudy of Los Gatos, CA, Dennis (Jean) of Cokato, MN, Ronald (Elaine) of East Bethel, MN, Terry of Hibbing, and Larry of Virginia, MN; three daughters, Lee (Don) Brown of Thief River Falls, MN, Beverly (Robert) Pluth of Blaine, MN, and Lolly (Bill) Lanska-Morin of Bowie, MD; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard in 1997; brother, Levern; and her sister, Iviedell.
Visitation will be Friday, March 13, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home and will continue Saturday, March 14th 2009 from 11:00 am until the 12:00 noon service at the Hibbing Alliance Church. The Reverend Kevin L. Norton will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Casketbearers will be Vergine's grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to the Gideons or Hibbing Alliance Church.
