Viola Saari, age 94 a longtime resident of Palo, died Friday, June 6, 2014 in the Essentia -Northern Pines Care center in Aurora. She was born April 15, 1920 in Biwabik, the daughter of Adrian and Ida (Wilmonen) Niemi and was a 1939 graduate of Aurora High School. Viola married George B. Saari on July 3, 1942 in Waukegan, IL. They made their home in Waukegan, and San Francisco, CA prior to returning to Palo. Viola was employed as a licensed beautician for many years. She was a Laskiainen Queen, was the 2014 Valentine's Day Queen at Northern Pines, and was known for her laughter. Viola loved bowling, playing horse shoes at the cabin at Whiteface, volleyball, fishing, camping, and was a diehard cribbage/card player.
Viola is survived by son: Dale (Jeannine) Saari of Palo; grandchildren: Christopher Saari of Forest Lake, MN, Jason (Cyndie) Saari of Palo, and Jennifer Martin of Circle Pines, MN; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kirsten, Emma, Dashel, and Sam; Nieces and nephews: Paul Saukko, David Saukko, Ronald Maki, Bill Saari, Art Saari, Anita Dressler, Betty Lamppa, and Loretta Rahkola; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: George; and sister: Norma Saukko.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Palo. A Gathering Time for family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in the family plot in the Rauha Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred in place of flowers.
