Violet M. Laukkonen, age 86, of Virginia and formerly of Sparta, Duluth, and Grand Rapids, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Essentia Health Care Center in Virginia. She was born February 7, 1929, in Balsam Township the daughter of Anton and Tyme Salo. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from UMD. She was united in marriage to Albert R. Laukkonen in Virginia in 1956. Violet worked as a teacher in Virginia, and then worked for LTV, the Highway Dept., and finally in the clerical department of St. Louis County Social Services. Violet was a member of United In Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening – vegetable and flowers, and reading. Violet is survived by three nieces: Kristin Hebrank of Woodbury, MN, Dr. Melanie Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, and Carolyn Carlson of Bloomington, MN; and a grandniece: Anna Hebrank of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Albert; and her sister Lillian Salo Carlson. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 11, 2015, at 10 am at the United In Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. The Reverend Steven Weston will officiate. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to United In Christ Lutheran Church Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home, in Virginia.
