Virginia Eleanor Iverson, age 83 of Lakeland died unexpectedly Thursday, January 3, 2013 in her home. She was born July 5, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Arthur and Virginia (nee Bing) Askegaard, was a graduate of Biwabik High school and Virginia Junior College. Virginia married Clayton William Iverson on June 11, 1949 in Biwabik. They farmed in Ada prior to building their own home in Lakeland in 1956. Virginia was a homemaker and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her greatest pleasure was raising her children. She was always so proud and supportive of her children and grandchildren. Fond memories of her include baking bread and meeting her kids at the school bus, playing games and family singing sessions around the piano. Growing up in a musical family, the "Arts" were very important to Virginia. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Aurora where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and played the organ and piano. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Haarfager Lodge of Virginia and the Arrowhead Concert Association. She was a kind, loving person who was known for her great sense of humor.
Virginia is survived by her fiancé: Gene Rivers; children: Christine (Bill) Culbert of Virginia, Ken (Christie) Iverson of Lake St. Louis, MO, Tim (Carla) Iverson of Duluth, Eric (Cindy) Iverson of Apple Valley, Susan (Bill) White of Lakeville, Elisa (Paul) Minehart of Albert Lea; brothers: Paul (Ardelle) Askegaard of St. Louis Park and Roblee (Mary) Askegaard, Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren: Nicole (Bill) Dahl, Kimberly (Paul) Blaeser, Megan (Bruce Beck) Culbert, Kirstin Iverson, Kaitlyn Iverson, Kevin Iverson, Brooke (Jason Zaborowski) Reynolds, Ian (Katie Laughlin) Reynolds, Andrea Minehart; great-grandchildren: Gavin Dahl, Ava Dahl, Kiera Blaeser, and Harvey Iverson; numerous nieces nephews, and extended family and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clayton; and sister: Joan Baron.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 7, 2013 from 5 pm until 7 pm in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. Visitation will continue Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Aurora. Pastors Brendan Johnston and Bob Simensen will co-officiate. Interment will take place in the Biwabik Township Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials.
