Obituary

Virginia Mae Ukkola Tuura, 96, died peacefully at home on April 5, 2025. She was born in Suminen's Sauna, Maple, Wisconsin on February 25, 1929, to William and Lillian Ukkola.


She was united in marriage to Bernard Tuura on June 28, 1947. They raised seven amazing children and there were many more that considered them ma and dad.


She worked for the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital for 18 years. And worked another 18 years at Zups of Babbitt, finally retiring at the age of 82.  She was an avid bowler back in the day, attending leagues in Virginia, Hoyt Lakes, and Babbitt. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and an extraordinary cook and baker. Her homemade bread could not be outdone, and her chocolate cake and chocolate cookies were the best.


She was a woman of great SISU!!


Virginia was proceeded in death by her husband Bernard; Daughter Shannon; and grandsons Jeffery and Kyle; Sister-In-Law: RoseAnne Ukkola; Brother-In-Law: Richard Herm.


She is Survived by Sons: Bruce Tuura (dear friend Sandy) and Tom Tuura; Daughters: Laverne (Rick) Ellis, Bev (Loren) Gorecki, Cheryl (Paul) Zillmer, and Missy (Kevin) Carlson; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; Sisters: Kay Kitch and Bernice Herm; Brother: Erland Ukkola; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews and family too many to mention.


A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
