William Joseph "Bill" Boril, age 84 of a lifelong resident of Virginia and Lake Vermilion, died Thursday, May 5 in the Cook Hospital. He was born March 19, 1932 in Virginia, the son of J.C. and Edith (Anderson) Boril; was a 1951 graduate of the Virginia Roosevelt High School and served in the United States Air Force in Casablanca during the Korean War. Bill married Gladys Thompson on January 1, 1957 in Las Vegas. He was employed as a Locomotive Engineer for Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific for 39 years, retiring in 1988; was a member Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was baptized and confirmed in the 1st Lutheran Church before it became Gethsemane. Bill also was a member of the Yoki-Bergman American Legion Post # 220 in Mt. Iron, an active member of the Sons of Norway, Haarfager Lodge in Virginia, and was a founding member of the Sportsmen's Club of Lake Vermilion. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, wintering in Florida for 23 years, and loved his lake place on Lake Vermilion. Bill was proud of his recent Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years: Gladys; Children: Gail (Loren) Haugen of Britt, Cary (Donna) Anderson of Britt, Dean (Ronna) Boril of Casper, WY, Linda Drawl of Lake Charles, LA and Tina Boril of Virginia; grandchildren: Luke, Jill, Ross, Britt, Jens, Patrick, Wesley, Jennifer, Annie and Alix; great-grandchildren: Toby, Grace, Carson, Odin, and Grayson; siblings: Carol (Gary) Grimes of Minneapolis and Robert (Mary) Boril of Esko; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; siblings: Howard, Richard, Patricia, and Thomas; and son-in-law: Walter Drawl.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Private inurnment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to the donor's choice.
