The Reverend William O. "Bill" Kvale, age 79 of Lake Vermilion died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was born October 10, 1930 in Minneapolis, the son of Oliver and Lucile (Crouse) Kvale. Bill was a graduate of Duluth Central high school, UMD and Drew University in Madison, NJ. He married Carol Snyder on August 19, 1953 in Duluth. Bill was a pastor of three churches in New Jersey and in New York while attending Seminary. After his graduation, Bill was Pastor of the Highwood Community Methodist Church in Highwood, Montana; Hillside and Norton Park United Methodist Churches in Duluth; United Methodist Church in Virginia; Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato; and Aldersgate Methodist Church in St. Louis Park. Bill retired in 1993 and moved to Lake Vermilion. He was Pastor Emeritus of the Aldersgate Methodist Church in St. Louis Park, and did pulpit supply for many churches, including St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, stamp collecting, and playing golf, especially with his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife: Carol; children: Marilyn (Scott) Kvale Kregness of Lake Vermilion and Steven (Wendy) Kvale of Bemidji; siblings: Robert (Marjorie) Kvale of Long Lake, MN and Drs. James (Janice) Kvale of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Eric Kvale, Dorian Kvale, Samuel Kvale, Sean (Allie Hayes) Kregness, and Sara Kregness; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
His parents preceded him in death.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service in the Virginia United Methodist Church.
Memorials are preferred.
