William George "Bill" Paulsen, age 67 of Duluth and Crane Lake and formerly of Virginia died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Essentia -St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth from complications after heart surgery, with his family by his side. He was born December 10, 1947 in Virginia the son of George "Bud" and Dorothy (Aho) Paulsen, graduated from Virginia Roosevelt High School Class of 1966 and earned a Master's degree in Social Work from UMD. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill married Linda Pekkarinen on November 11, 1972 and they were longtime residents of Duluth. He was employed by St. Louis County Social Services as a supervisor prior to his retirement. He loved spending time at the cabin on Crane Lake with his golden-doodle,"Rachel", boating, fishing, hunting and traveling. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, good heart, and sense of humor.
Bill is survived by sisters: Sandra Brusacoram of Plymouth, Barbara (Butch) Pariseau of Eveleth and Georgeann (David) Berg of Virginia; sister and brothers-in-law: Karen (Mike) Secola and Ron Pekkarinen; mother-in-law: Gladys Pekkarinen; nieces and nephews: Paula (Jeffrey) Gunderson, Terry Brusacoram, Jr., Kim (Brent) Carr, Jodi (Tory) Schreurs, Matthew Berg, Daniel Berg, Michael Berg, Kelly (Mike) Bakk, Joe (Amanda) Secola, Corey (Melissa) Pekkarinen and Alena (Kevin) Hull; great-nieces and nephews: Jordan Gunderson, Samantha Carr, Alexis Carr, Lincoln Schreurs, Gavin Schreurs, Emma Berg, Rylan Lanari, Carson Berg, Benjamin Bakk, Cooper Bakk and Eli Pekkarinen; friend: Kathy McNabb and her daughters: Jen, Kelly and Katie; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 38 years: Linda; father-in-law: Alvin Pekkarinen and brother-in-law: Terrance Brusacoram.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Kristin Foster will officiate. A Gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family inurnment will take place in the Eveleth Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials are the preferred way to honor Bill's memory.
