William Homer Schoonover, Jr, age 77, of Eveleth and formerly of Chisholm and Virginia, died peacefully Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Raphael's Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. He was born April 26, 1937 in Chisholm, MN the son of William H. and Mary (Blagoue) Schoonover, Sr. He was united in marriage to Delores Kathryn Siermala in Chisholm on September 30, 1961; and was a longtime resident of Virginia. Bill was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Erie Mining Company - LTV retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia, and Hematite Lodge AF&AM in Chisholm. Bill was an avid reader, a life-long learner, a handyman, and really enjoyed music.
Bill is survived by his wife: Delores of Eveleth; daughters: Shelly (Scott) Steinberg of Buhl and Sandra Schoonover of Missoula, MT; sisters: Lenore "Kiki" Barke of Chisholm and Kristy Tregillis of New Brighton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: George and Sander.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 16 from 6 pm until 7 pm in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue Friday , October 17, 2014 from 9:30am until the 10:30 am Celebration of Life in Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia. Pastor Mickey Olson will officiate. Interment will take place at the Cedar Valley Cemetery at a later date.
