Obituary

William "Bill" James Stockwell, age 65, of Virginia, died June 25, 2018 at Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth with his family by his side. He was born on July 4, 1952 in Grand Rapids, the son of William Otis and Selma Marie Stockwell. He was a 1972 graduate of the Grand Rapids High School, and also attended the Eveleth College for Mechanics and Graphic Arts. Bill served in the Army for 5 years, drove for Dial-A-Ride for 13 years, and worked at Fortune Bay as a cashier for 9 years. He was an avid bowler, serving as the secretary of the Virginia Men's Bowling League for 10 years. He also enjoyed playing darts.


Bill is survived by his fiancé: Mary Jane Lundquist of Virginia; step-daughter: Roberta (Brett) Haavisto of West Eveleth; Grandsons: Brandon (Hidie) Haavisto and Brody Haavisto; Brothers: Terry (Alice) Stockwell of Santa Cruz, CA, and Lonnie (Brenda) Stockwell of Grand Rapids; and extended family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Larry.


A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 14 at the Virginia Serviceman's Club; 229 Chestnut Street, Virginia, MN.
