William H. Tammi, age 86, of Mesa, AZ, and formerly of Hibbing and Bear River died December 21, 2013, in his home in Mesa. He was born May 23, 1927, in Cloquet, MN the Son of August and Hilda (Jaakala) Tammi. He attended school in Togo. A veteran of the US Navy, William served aboard the USS Laffey (DD 724) during WWII. He was united in marriage to Irene Seopa in 1948, and following her death to Elaine Warner in 1976.
William worked for Zaganbelny Logging in Togo, E.W. Coons, and for F. H. Bathke in the warehouse and as a driver for 30 years – retiring in 1991. He was a member of VFW Post # 8510. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and bowling.
William is survived by two sons: Brian (Ruth Ann) Tammi of Hibbing, and Scott (Wendy) Tammi of International Falls, MN; five grandchildren: Jacob, Brianna, Colton, Sarah, and Billy; and many friends.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wives: Irene and Elaine; two brothers: Bob and Carl; and two sisters: Helen and Lempi.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Memorial Service Monday, January 13, 2014, in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Tim Yearean will officiate. Inurnment will be in the spring.
