Alan Carl Toenjes Obituary

Alan Carl Toenjes, 77, of Angora, MN, passed away unexpectedly on May 25, with his wife, Sumalee, by his side. A lifelong outdoorsman and devoted fisherman, Al found joy on the water and was granted the rare gift of leaving this world doing what he loved most.

Alan’s life was rich with adventure and hard work. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, including during the Vietnam War. His dedication continued through a fulfilling 40-year career with Ford Motor Company in St. Paul.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alan immersed himself in the great outdoors, embracing competitive trap shooting, snowmobiling, hunting, and, of course, fishing. These pursuits were not just hobbies, but cherished experiences shared with his closest family and friends. Following his retirement from Ford, Alan lived his passion to the fullest, owning and operating a fishing charter in Kenosha, WI.

Alan is survived by his loving wife, Sumalee; daughter, Erin Toenjes; stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Norman (Cheryl Kingrea) Toenjes, Neil (Sherry) Toenjes, Kristin (Carlyle) Olson, Ed (Jane) Toenjes, and Laurie (Bob) Waldbillig; sister-in-law, Jean Toenjes; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.  His family and friends in Thailand also deeply mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Enid; his brother, David; and his son, Michael.

A service honoring Alan’s life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025.  Please arrive at Assembly Area 4,     no later than 11:10 a.m. at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
