Alvina Gertrude Steinberg, age 83 of Bovey, died Monday, May 25, 2026 at Carefree Living in Cook.  She was born on January 17, 1943 in Grey Eagle, MN, the daughter of Melvin A. and Elizabeth (Marty) Halling.  She was a 1961 graduate of Nashwauk high school,  and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester in 1964, earning her 3 year RN degree.  She married Leroy Steinberg on Jan. 1965 at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Pengilly.    She has lived in Pengilly, LaPrairie, and Calumet.  She worked as an RN in St. Mary’s of Duluth, the Deer River Hospital, and Leisure Hills in Hibbing. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church in the 1970’s, St. Kevin’s in the 1980’s, and most recently St. Cecelia’s in Nashwauk.  She was a member of the Greenway Lion’s club, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, gardening, and fishing.

Alvina is survived by her children:  Scott (Shelly Schoonover) Steinberg of Buhl, and Rochon (Brett) Kinney of Superior, WI:  siblings:  Del Halling of Pengilly, Harold (Lana) Halling of Pengilly, Edna Kalmi of Pengilly,  Lila (Steve) Hofer, of Pengilly, and Ken (Pam) Kalmi of Pengilly; Grandson:  Griffin Kinney of AZ;  and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband:  Leroy;  siblings:  Gordon Halling, Pauline Gangle, Eve Sarff, JoAnne Stolp, Robert Halling, Gene Halling, and Betty Barsness.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk.  A visitation will begin at 10:00 am.  The celebrant will be Deacon Richard Johnston.

Inurnment will follow at the Nashwauk cemetery
