Carol Dawn Swanson

            Carol Dawn Swanson, age 88, of Mt. Iron and formerly of Hoyt Lakes, MN, died Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, MN, with family at her side.  She was born August 20, 1936, in East Grand Forks, MN, the daughter of Gilbert and Virginia (Biss) Jeffery.  She was a graduate of Virginia High School.  Carol was united in marriage to Arlen G. Swanson on June 23, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Virginia.     

            Carol worked as a bank teller for Norwest Bank, retiring after 36 years of service.  She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia.  Carol was quite active – pitching in wherever she was.  She enjoyed BINGO, gardening, bowling, and with her husband Arlen, spending 17 winters in Apache Junction, AZ and organizing the Turtle Races during the Hoyt Lakes Water Carnival in the summers.

            Carol is survived by her daughter: Cheryl (Jim) Martinetto of Grand Rapids, MN; brother: Mark Jeffery of Florida; sister-in-law: Beverly Jeffery of Wadena, MN; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Arlen; daughter: Leigh Ann Surla; and brother: Bert Jeffery.

            Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 Noon Memorial Service, Monday July 7, 2025, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia.  Pastor Liz Cheney will officiate.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Hoyt Lakes Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor’s choice.
