Carol J. Sweeney, age 86, longtime resident of Virginia died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at The Waterview Woods in Eveleth.  She was born April 3, 1937, in Mora, MN, the daughter of Orlando and Helen (Johnson) Lind.  She was a graduate of Mora High School.  Carol was united in marriage to Sheldon R. “Abe” Sweeney on September 1, 1956, in the Hillman Baptist Church in Mora.

            Carol worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at her husband’s business: Sweeney Vending, and at Taconite Aviation.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Carol was an active lady who enjoyed quilting, painting, gardening, traveling, playing piano and singing, cooking, baking, going for walks, skiing and playing volleyball.  Carol was a Cub Scout den mother, president of the PTA at James Madison, and she hosted a Women’s Bible Study in her home for many years.

            Carol is survived by her husband: Abe; son: Sheldon (Roxie) Sweeney of Virginia; and numerous extended family and friends. 

            She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters: Janice Collin and Renee Kadlec.

            A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Mora, MN.

            The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the staff at The Waterview Woods for the care and compassion that they showed to Carol.
