Dawn Kay Carlson, 69 of Virginia, died on Wednesday May 13, 2026, Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Duluth, MN. She was born on December 21, 1956, in Bertha, MN, the daughter of John and Ann (Pattschull) Markley. Dawn was a graduate of Virginia High School and a lifelong resident of Virginia, MN.
Dawn was a dedicated caretaker in the healthcare industry, and her compassion for others defined her career. She devoted her life to helping those in need and made countless connections during her time in home health care.
Outside of work, Dawn was known for her love of baking, flower gardening, and knitting. She loved warm and sunny days, and could often be found tending to her flowers or whipping up delicious treats in her kitchen. Music was always playing in her home, and she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Dawn's greatest pride was her family, especially her beloved grandson Jack, creating precious memories that will forever be embedded in the hearts of her family.
Dawn is survived by Son: Brett (Crystal Maki) Carlson of Tower; Brother: Russ Markley of Minneapolis; Grandson: Jack Carlson, and numerous extend family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Ann; Son: Matt Carlson; and Brother: Dean Markley.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia, Visitation will begin one hour prior at 1:00.
