Dennis V. Hilmas Jr., age 57 of Tower, MN, passed away on January 3, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth, MN.  He was born on June 7, 1967, in Virginia, MN to Dennis V. Hilmas, Sr., and Vivian M. (Chosa) Hilmas.  He attended Virginia schools and served in the U. S. Army.

Dennis obtained a good solid work ethic by working alongside his father, in his father’s contracting business, starting at age 12.  Through his ability to be a fast learner, he was unafraid of any mechanical challenge.  He loved working on anything with an engine, whether it be cars, snow machines, lawn mowers, etc.  He could repair most anything and welcomed the challenge.

His favorite pastime was dirt track racing.  Dennis prepared his own cars, built the engines, and through his welding skills, he built his own safety equipment in first class fashion.  He raced his car at the Hibbing Speedway Dirt Track, in Proctor, MN and in New Richmond, WI.

Dennis will be missed by many.  He is survived by his father: Dennis, Hilmas, Sr. of New Auburn, WI; sons: Daniel (Lexi) Hilmas of Virginia and Darren (Victoria) Hilmas of South Range, WI; grandchildren: Kyler, Kinsley, Nova, Nina, and Rico; sister: Anita (Larry) Milbridge of Tower; nephews: Christoper Hunt and Chandler Brown; Dan and Darren’s Mother: Danyell Vesel; numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; daughter: Daisha, and sister:  Lynette. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia.
