Duane “Red” Schroeder of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully of natural causes with his wife by his side at their home on April 9th, 2024, at the age of 89 years. He was born in the family home near Akeley, MN, on May 14, 1934 the son of Herman and Alice (Werth) Schroeder. He attended school in Akeley, MN and later received his G.E.D. He was a National Guard member for a short time. Duane was united in marriage to Edythe A. Nohrenberg on June 22, 1958, at the Lutheran Church in Nimrod, MN.
Duane worked at Erickson Lumber, Graco, Iron Range Propane, and Dave’s Sales before finally retiring at age 86. He was a very strong, hard-working man, knew carpentry very well, and was very generous helping anyone in need – never expecting to be repaid. He served on several church boards at Grace Lutheran over the years and volunteered whenever he had time. He enjoyed spending time with his family fishing (built his own Pontoon boat 62 years ago) hunting, and teaching those pastimes to his kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren.
Duane is survived by his wife of 65 years; their four children: Debra Ann Kellnhauser of Hibbing, Sandra (Kerry) Dixon of Reno, NV, Donna Rae (Bryan) Myers of Champlin, MN, and David Duane Schroeder of Chisholm, MN; a foster daughter: Kathy Campbell of Baxter, MN; brothers: Raymond of Seattle, WA, and Kenneth of Akeley, MN; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson arriving in August; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: a brother: Donald; and sisters: Joyce and Betty.
The Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran church in Hibbing at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Menahga Cemetery, Menahga, MN.
