Frank "Augie" Del Greco, age 71 of Parkville / Mountain Iron, died in his home on January 17, 2024. He was born May 19,1952 in Virginia, the son of Frank and Sarah (Santa) Del Greco, and was raised in Buhl along with his two sisters and two brothers. In his younger years, he had a paper route for Mesabi Daily News (Mesabi Tribune) and in High School, participated in sports and graduated from Martin Hughes High School in 1970. After two years at Minnesota North College-Hibbing, he worked for Minntac/US Steel using his degree in drafting and surveying as a surveyor there. He was the third generation of the Del Greco family to work for US Steel. During this time he drew a low lottery number in the Vietnam War Draft which compelled him to enlist in the US Army. He served three years state-side at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and upon his return continued working for US Steel for 40 plus years. Frank was a member of Hope Community Presbyterian Church in Virginia, and served as a church elder, a custodian and sang in the Chancel Choir.
Frank has two daughters, Caroline and Rebecca “Beki” whom he loved. He loved nature, hunting, fishing, volleyball, music, books and "shootin' the bull." He was a great storyteller and we all enjoyed his humor, his jokes and hunting stories. He had a generous spirit, an amazing work ethic and was a great connector of friends and family and kept in contact with them often. He was a steadfast man, loyal to his family, his friends and his country - and will always be in our hearts. He will be deeply missed.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Sarah (Santa) Del Greco, and fiancee Gigi McCormick.
He is survived by his daughters: Caroline (Joe Gams) Del Greco and grandson Orion of Virginia, Rebecca “Beki” Del Greco of Minneapolis; former wife Sue Swanson of Virginia, siblings: Francine (Andrew) Larson of Soudan, Bonnie (Ron) Novak of Fargo, ND, Andy (Ann) Del Greco of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Don (Bonnie) Del Greco of Pelican Rapids; Gigi's grandchildren: Brittany Moll and Chris Maziolek, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A service is being planned for a future date.
