Gerald Edward Wallner, age 87, of Virginia and formerly of Bruno, MN, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Essentia Health, Virginia Hospital.  He was born June 22, 1935, in Bruno, MN, the son of Edwin and Adeline (Domning) Wallner.  Gerald attended Bruno High School and later completed his GED.  He was a Veteran of the US Army.  Gerald was united in marriage to Erdine Hansen on July 31, 1959, in Austin, MN.

                Gerald worked as a Control Room Operator in the Concentrator at US Steel – retiring after 45 years of service.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Virginia, the Bruno American Legion Post #0563, and the Quad Cities ATV Club.

                Gerald was an adventurous man who enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and riding ATV’s and motorcycles well into his 80’s.  He was a tremendous sports fan who often purchased the first season-ticket of the year for Virginia sporting events.

                Gerald is survived by his children: Debra (Michael) Thayer of Mt. Iron, MN, Jeff (Missy) Wallner of Britt, MN, Jim (Jennifer) Wallner of Duluth, MN, and Carol Akes of Zimmerman, MN; grandchildren: Bonnie (Nick) Norlander, Kane Wallner, Tyler (Amanda) Wallner, Matt (Brielle) Kesanen, Josh (Sarah Callister) Kesanen, Kira (Drew) Buchwitz, Christina (Steve) Snaza, Morgan (Matt) Costley, Spencer (Hannah) Wallner, Cory Anderson, and Jessica (Ben) Jurmu; great-grandchildren: Mabel, Lenna, Lexi, Lydia, Cooper, Cameron, Adeline, Cecilia, Elouise, Sullivan, Amelia, Tucker, and Finley; sister: Judy (Tom) Burdick of Mound, MN; sisters-in-law: Helga, Louise and Arlene; and numerous extended family and friends.

                He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Erdine in 2016; and brothers: Rich, Bob, Lawrence, and John.

                Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Virginia.  Pastor Brad Felix will officiate.  Interment will be at 4:00 P.M. in the Bruno Cemetery.  Military Honors will be presented by the Bruno American Legion Post #0563.
