Helga Elise Nelson, age 93, longtime resident of Hibbing died Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.  She was born August 27, 1932, in Mizpah, MN, the daughter of Peter and Katie (Edwardson) Peterson who were Norwegian immigrants.  She graduated from Littlefork/Big Falls High School.  Helga was united in marriage to Leo S. Nelson on September 25, 1954, in Northome, MN.

            Helga worked as a homemaker.  She was a longtime and active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing where she served in the Church Circles, did quilting, and helped put on the Lutefisk dinners.  She was a member of the Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge #058.  She volunteered her time at the hospital and enjoyed sewing, knitting, Hardanger crafts, and baking.

            Helga is survived by her daughters: Carol Nelson of Hibbing, and Karen Kreibich of Otsego, MN; sister: Haldis Ruzynski of Coon Rapids, MN; brothers: Elmer Peterson of Glendive, MT, John Peterson, and Lee (Shelley) Peterson of Cambridge, MN; granddaughters: Jennifer (Victor) Poppler, and Heidi (Jake) Vanderbeek; great grandchildren: Jacob, Jeffrey, and Anna Vanderbeek, and Claire and Ruby Poppler; and numerous extended family and friends.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Leo; sons: Brian and Bob; and son-in-law: Randy Kreibich.

            Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m.  Funeral Service Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing.  The Reverend Kevin Olson will officiate.  Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
