Leonard Raymond Raati, IV, age 52, longtime resident of Ely, MN, and formerly of Hibbing, MN, died Friday, December 15, 2023, in his home.  He was born November 29, 1971, in Chisholm, MN the son of Leonard III, and Donna (Carlson) Raati.  He was a graduate of Cook High School and went on to complete the Diesel Mechanic Program at HCC.

            Leonard worked as a Custodian at the Vermilion Community College.  He was a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on everyone’s cars.

            Leonard is survived by his parents: Leonard and Donna Raati of Angora, MN; children: Leonard Raati, V, of Ely, MN, Mercedes Tibbetts of Virginia, MN, and Kyle (Lindsey) Russ of Ely, MN; siblings: Amanda Skot of Aurora, MN, Carla (Craig) Fiedor of Saratoga, WY, Edward (Ashley) Raati of Grasston, MN, Alberta (Paul) Warwas of Iron, MN, Veronica Johnson of Hibbing, MN, and Ana (Josh) Black of Iron, MN; grandchildren: Aiden Raati, Silus Hamilton, Ayla and Ceci Tibbetts, Ryker and Ava Russ; his former wife: Denise Slaughter of Ely, MN; his maternal grandmother: Joan Luhta of Ely, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

            He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Ray and Louise Raati; and his maternal grandfather: Harvey Carlson.

            A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Legacy Church in Virginia.  Pastor Gene Sherrod will be the officiant.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Field Cemetery.
