Lois Hoiland Obituary

Lois Mae Hoiland passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024 surrounded by her family.  Lois was born in Virginia, MN on July 29, 1935 to Elmira and Gordon Jennings. She married Jay Hoiland, Sr. of Cook on December 7, 1953 and they resided in Virginia until the family moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1962. In 1972 they relocated to Lakeland and retired to Virginia in 1997.

Lois and Jay started fostering children in need of a stable home in the mid 1960’s. She had a positive impact on over 100 foster children over the next 30 years. Their retirement years consisted of traveling the US with their camper, often taking the grandkids with them, and in their later years, wintering in Mississippi.
Lois enjoyed spending hundreds of hours on needlework pictures for her home and her family. She took great pride in her many flower gardens. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Virginia.
Lois is survived by her children, Jay Jr. (Marilyn), Brad (Nancy), Kim Perpich (Tony), grandchildren Lily Hoiland Branstrom (fiancé Tyler Gregg), Melissa Allman (John), Michael Perpich (Michelle), Hannah Salo, Lydia Hoiland, Raina Compton, Ruby Hoiland, Nora Sereno, six great grandchildren, her sister Darlene (Ted) Squillace, cousin Lorraine (Joe) Mohar, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Sr. and brothers Gordon Jr. and Frank Jennings.  A private family service will be held at a later date.

The family wants to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Essentia Health for the exceptional care and kindness provided during her stay.
