Mary Anne Elmquist, age 87, longtime resident of Hibbing, MN, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Guardian Angels by the Lake in Elk River, MN. She was born April 26, 1936, in Sandford, IN, the daughter of Olen and Hazel (Ault) Haymaker. She was united in marriage to James Elmquist on March 2, 1957, in Riley, IN.
Mary was a homemaker who also worked as a daycare provider for over 20 years. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing, the Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge #058, and the Women’s Bowling Association. Mary made hundreds of school bags for missions outreach and enjoyed quilting with the ladies of OSLC. Mary spent countless hours outside in her wonderful flower gardens and having s’mores in her fire pit.
Mary is survived by her children: Gregory (Julie) Elmquist of Ishpeming, MI, Darwin (Kay) Elmquist of Elk River, MN, and Karen Martinson of Minneapolis, MN; Sister: Laura Hayworth of Terre Haute, IN, grandchildren: Brian Elmquist, Mary (Connor) Sullivan, Andrew (Emily) Elmquist, Annette (Cory) Mahoski, and Kristen Tabor; great-grandchildren: Tristan, Seth, Cate, Chloe, Alex, Connor, Tanner, Emmett, Rowyn, James, Parker, Liam, and Leah; and numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: James (2003), daughter-in-law: Liz Elmquist; son-in-law: Bill Martinson; sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy (Bill) Bauer; brother: George Haymaker; and brother-in-law: Byron Hayworth.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Reverend Kevin Olson will officiate.
