Melody Lynn Leilani Gomes Ramponi, age 70, of Mountain Iron, passed away on April 17, 2026, at Diamond Willow in Proctor, MN, surrounded by her husband of 50 years and her children. She was born on October 28, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas, to Wallace Leon (Lucky) Farrell and Welda Nell Gomes.
Melody’s childhood was full of movement and adventure, taking her across Texas, North Carolina, and California, and even to a houseboat in Hawaii for eight years before her family eventually settled in Cotton, MN, during her high school years. She met the love of her life, Roger, at Mesabi Range Community College, where she studied Mathematics and Economics. After he asked her out, the two were engaged by their third date, a story she loved to tell.
A devoted mother and lifelong learner, Melody homeschooled all ten of her children and took immense pride in watching each of them graduate from college. She was an avid gardener who found joy not only in tending her plants but also in canning the vegetables she grew, filling her pantry with the colors and flavors of each season. She loved the quiet challenge of Sudoku, the lively energy of political debate, and the deep satisfaction of tracing her family lines through early ancestry tools long before they were common. Her dedication to genealogy led to one of the great joys of her later life: discovering and reconnecting with another sister and aunt, expanding her family in ways she treasured deeply. She also cherished long phone conversations and could talk for hours with her sister, Vienna, and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and the details of everyday life. A dedicated Trekkie from the very beginning, she delighted in every new series and storyline. Melody helped found two homeschool co ops and poured her time, intellect, and heart into building communities of learning. Her curiosity, passion, and sharp mind were constant throughout her life, shaping both her home and the many people who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her husband, Roger, and their children: Joseph (Kerilee), Anna, William (Sarah), James (Lindsey), Rachel (Scott), Victoria, Katherine (Adam), Andrea (Thomas), Dominic, and Mario. She is also survived by her 18 grandchildren, Caleb, Xavier, Maria, Adrian, Julian, Faustina, Roman, Freya, Gianna, Rose, Abigail, Caspar, Daniel, Theodore, Louis, Patrick, Marian, and Baby B, as well as her siblings and many extended family members who loved her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother; her grandchild, Benedict; her brothers in law, Roland and Gerald; and her sister in law, Rosalyn.
