Michael Damon Peterson, age 90, of Gilbert passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18th, 2025. Ever the storyteller, Mike loved to talk and impart his wisdom (or the occasional off-color anecdote) on anyone who would listen. He will be remembered for his love of lists (specifically on Post-its), a brandy stinger on the rocks, and spending time with his family at his cabin in Greaney, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Elvin J. and Alice M. Peterson, and brother Wendell (Shirley) Peterson. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy, three children, David (Martha) Peterson of Champlin, Susan (Terry) Kruse of Eveleth, and Theresa Fleming of Lakeville, eight grandchildren, Michael (Jill) Peterson, John Peterson, Lisa (Jamie) Kruse, Jake (Matt) Fleming, Laura (Jared) Predmore, Emily (Chuck) Unhjem, Hanna (Shane) Murphy, and Ellen Fleming, as well as 11 great grandchildren.

Mike was born on January 31st, 1935, in Minneapolis, but spent much of his childhood in Bowbells, ND where he learned about farming, and life, from his maternal grandparents and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. After graduating high school, he joined the army and was stationed in Virginia where he met and fell in love with Nancy Preston. Two days after he was discharged from the army, the two married and settled in Minneapolis (and later Burnsville) where they raised their three children.

Mike spent his career in building management and caretaking throughout the Twin Cities, but his true happiness was found in his many hobbies including amateur stock car racing, fishing, and deer hunting. His love for the outdoors was never more apparent than when he was spending time at his cabin in Greaney, MN. Mike and Nancy’s cabin was a place where his children and grandchildren (and even great grandchildren) enjoyed visiting, hunting, playing games and spending time together. In his later years, you could find him nearly every summer night out in his “man cave” watching sports, enjoying a cocktail, and relishing the peace and solitude of his little piece of paradise.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Mike’s life.
