Michael E. Olds (68) went home to Heaven on May 30th in his home with his wife and kids by his side.

He was born September 24, 1956 to Edward and Shirley (Handeland) Olds in Chisholm, MN.  He spent the majority of his childhood in Balkan with his five siblings.  He loved the cows, playing in the hayloft and being surrounded by farmland.  His dad’s job brought them to  Black River Falls, WI for a short time. He graduated from Chisholm High School in 1975 and went to work in the mines spending most of his career at Minorca Mine in Virginia, MN.

In 1984, He was married to the love of his life, Alice Carlson. They purchased a hobby farm in Hibbing where they planted trees, rode horses, and raised three amazing children. They later moved to Zim, MN where they enjoyed the peace and quiet of many acres. Mike retired from the mine in 2006 and then began a new career of school bus driving during which he cared deeply for the many students he safely transported.

Through the years, Mike was involved in many aspects of ministry. He and Alice spent several years as youth leaders in addition to inviting people into their home for Bible study. He spent time as an Associate Pastor for Triumphant Life Church as well as Pulpit fill for various area churches. At one time Mike offered an out of town youth group to camp in his field as they were in the area to do service projects. While He enjoyed the ministry of snowplowing for neighbors, as he became less active, his prayer life became strengthened.

 In 2016, Mike added a new title to his life, that of Papa. He adored his five grandchildren. He introduced them to the love of rodeo, yogi bear and the Minnesota Vikings.

Michael is survived by his wife, Alice. His children Jessica (Andrew) Gallagher of Duluth, Greg (Katherine) Olds of Chisholm,  and Kaci (Nathanael Stephens) of Brooklyn Center. Grandchildren: Noah, Amelia, and Elijah Gallagher, Jasper and Madelynn Olds. Brothers: Dennis (Nancy) Olds of Hibbing, and Daniel Olds of Balkan. Brother-in-law Jim Halberg of Buhl and Sister-in-law Mayumi Olds of Fusa, Japan.

Michael is preceded in Death by His parents Edward and Shirley Olds. Sister Lois Halberg and Brothers David Olds and Donald Olds.

            Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Chisholm Baptist Church.  Pastor Matt Hagsten will be the officiant.  Private inurnment will be in the Chisholm Cemetery.
