It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend Michael John Voss, age 71, who passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Essentia Health Virginia.
Mike was born in Virginia, Mn to Frederick (Jack) and Roberta Voss on February 13th, 1953. He spent his younger years growing up in Hoyt Lakes, MN; Then the family moved to Virginia, where Mike was active in sports—football, baseball, and wrestling. Mike was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School’s class of 1971.
After graduation, Mike worked several jobs before meeting his future wife, Ann Kralich. They married in 1975. Mike worked for the DMIR Railroad for several years before becoming an employee of Inland Steel Mining, where he worked for 32 years as a millwright, retiring in 2011.
Mike was a proud father of their son Cory and was actively involved in his son’s activities throughout his school years. He was a Little League Coach, board member of the Virginia Quarterback Club, The Diamond Club, a member of the 2003 All-Night Grad Party Committee, and was on the board that started The Blue Pride Fund for the Virginia Foundation. Mike never missed a baseball or football game throughout his son’s high school years. He loved cheering on his son and his friends. In addition, Mike and Cory snowmobiled and hunted together across northern Minnesota and Canada for many years.
Mike’s passion, along with spending time with his family, was duck hunting. Some of his most cherished experiences were hunting with his long-time buddies and his son on Lake of the Woods. Snowmobiling trips with those same friends on Kabetogama was another special part of his life. He was blessed to have a close-knit group of friends that he and Ann spent much time with.
Mike is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann, his son Cory (Ashley) from Lakeville, MN, and his grandchildren Kennedy, Cullen, and Logan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Dave and Toni Kralich, Randy and Sue Kralich, and William and Pam Kralich, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike also leaves behind his many dear friends with whom he had remained close throughout his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Patrick, and his grandparents, along with aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.
The family is grateful for the assistance of the first responders and the ER staff at Essentia Health for their caring and compassionate efforts.
