Myrtle V. Hook, age 90, longtime resident of Hibbing died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.  She was born September 3, 1933 in Hillhead, SD, the daughter of Ole and Gudrun (Smulan) Brubakken.  She was a graduate of Kidder High School in Kidder, SD.  Myrtle was united in marriage to Jasper Hook on May 18, 1952, in Britton, SD.

            Myrtle worked as a homemaker.  She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she served in the kitchen, Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge #058, and TOPS/KOPS.  She volunteered at the Salvation Army soup kitchen, and enjoyed crocheting, reading, and walking with the Mesabi Mall walking group.

            Myrtle is survived by her children: Patricia Barsness of Hibbing, MN, Ervin (Sandy) Hook of Chisholm, MN, Peggy (Bob) Modlisz of Hibbing, MN and Mary (Pat) Green of Mt. Iron, MN; brothers: Gardner Brubakken of Two Harbors, MN, Edwin Brubakken of Britton, SD, and Harold Brubakken of Britton, SD; sister-in-law: Anita Brubakken of Kansas; grandchildren: Michael Barsness, Bobbi (Dan) Swieringa, Mark (Frankie) Barsness, Erica Hook, Nicole Hook, Jessica Schaeffer, Lindsay Simonson, Heather (Nick) Markovich, Kimberly (Bill) Schlecht, Brian Brown, Jeffery (Laura) Green-Smith, Jarod (Leah) Green, Kerby Green, and Rielly (Christian) Junes; great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Tyler, Ace, Aiden, Hunter, Jackson, Arielle, Beau, Wyatt, Levi, Jasper, Kaija, Alayna, Evelyn, Jonah, Amelia, Graham, and Harrison; great-great grandchildren: Owen, and another expected in December; and numerous extended family and friends.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Jasper “Swede” (1986); brothers: John, Roger, Ole, and Carl; sister: Birdell Olson; and son-in-law: Dale Barsness.         

            Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing.  The Reverend Kevin Olson will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
