Norman James Harrington, age 87 of Virginia, MN died Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was surrounded by family and died due to complications with a long battle with cancer. He was born June 27, 1938 in Durand, MI the son of James and Elinor (Schlaack) Harrington and grew up in several locations in Michigan. Norman was a graduate of Owosso High School and completed trade school for tool and die making in the spring of 1964. He was a proud Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Arcadia (AD-23), a destroyer tender stationed out of Newport, RI. It was in Newport where he met his future wife, Lorraine (Loni) Connerton. They were wed on January 15, 1961 in Mt. Morris Township, Genesee County, MI. They eventually settled down in Flushing, MI where they subsequently raised their two daughters Dawn (Berry), and Donna (Olson). After Norm’s 4-year stint in the Navy, he began his career and ultimately retired (25 years) from General Motors (Buick City) out of Flint, MI. When Norman retired, Norm and Loni became snowbirds between their main residence in Flushing, MI, and a 55-and-older park in Zephyrhills, FL where they eventually lived year-round. Norm enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, cribbage, and was an avid golfer. 

Norman is survived by daughter: Donna (Mark) Olson of Virginia, MN,; son-in law: Brett Berry of Richmond Hill, GA; brother: Paul (Debbie) Harrington of Johnson City, TN; sisters: Helen Harrington of Flint, MI and Michele (Gerald) Gardner of Vernon, MI; grandchildren: Michael Olson of Virginia MN, Chrystal Olson of Virginia MN, James Berry of Savannah GA, Kaitlyn Berry of Minneapolis MN, and Kileen Berry (Kenneth Henderson) of Peachtree Corners GA; great-grandchildren: Abigail, Brynlee, Mollie, Everleigh, Aria, Lyla, and Beau; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Lorraine and daughter: Dawn
