Oddle ”Barney” Lilgreen, age 91, of Anoka, MN and formerly of Babbitt died on Sunday January 14 2023 in Anoka, Minnesota. He was born on May 19, 1932 in Cushing, Mn the son of Herman and Katie (Bennett) Lilgreen. Barney served in United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and attained the rank of Corporal. He married Ella Rahier on December 8, 1956 in Grand Rapids, Mn; and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt. He was employed as a Riveter for Boeing on the experimental B.52 Bomber in Renton Washington. Barney was employed with Reserve Mining for 31 years as a 60-inch crusher operator and electrician. He also was employed at LTV mining in Hoyt Lakes, Mn for 6 years.
Barney was a proud member of the Korean Veterans Association, Babbitt V.F.W Post #1539, where he served as Commander, a member of the Honor Guard and served the All-State Post for three years, the Maki-Pinola American Legion Post #535, Babbitt Knights of Columbus and the Babbitt Lions Club.
Barney is survived by his wife Ella; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: John, Herman Jr., Alfred and William Lilgreen; sister: Pauline Anderson; sister-In-law: Harriet Hodgson; in-laws: Marjorie and Laura Lilgreen; brother-In-laws: Robert Hodgson and Conran Anderson.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Bass Brook Community Center, Cohasset, MN. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Military Will be accorded by the Mcveigh-Dunn American Legion Post # 60 of Grand Rapids.
