Ordian L. Matsen, age 88, of Hibbing, MN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, MN. Born in Hibbing on July 15, 1935 to William and Dora (Robinson) Matsen, Ordie was raised in Poole, MN and attended Hibbing High School.

He married his wife Beverly Joan Frost on September 22, 1956 at Chisholm Baptist Church in Chisholm, MN where they both remained lifelong members of the church.

Known for his hard work and dedication, Ordian began his working career at General Trading Co, followed by Ordie’s Texaco of Hibbing where he was owner & operator for many years. If you needed auto mechanic, gas, or coffee, Ordie’s was the place to stop. Later in life, he owned and operated Car Quest Auto of Virginia, was parts manager at Iron Trail Motors, and was also a Care-A-Van driver.

Outside of work, Ordian enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, and games in his screen porch with his wife, family, and friends. Ordian’s grandkids also remember his attendance at their school plays, sporting events, and visits and trips when grandchildren lived out of state.

Ordian is survived by his children: Raymon (Scarlet) Matsen of St. Paul, MN, Gregory (Nancy) Matsen of De Pere, WI, and Scott (Renee) Matsen of Hibbing, MN; 9 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren (with more on the way) and numerous extended family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife and best friend: Beverly in 2015; and three siblings: Henry Buchholtz, Wilmar Matsen, and Shirley Klebs.

A Memorial Service will take place on July 12, 2024 at 11AM at Chisholm Baptist Church in Chisholm, MN, with a visitation for 1 hour prior to the service. The Reverend Dan Erickson will officiate with special words shared from lifelong friend Roger Johnson.

Lastly, the family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Cornerstone Villa for their compassionate care and support during Ordie’s stay. Their kindness and dedication provided great comfort to the entire family over the years.
