Peter Dwayne Hawkins, age 72, of Mt. Iron, Minnesota, died on Tuesday January 27, 2026. He was born on on November 2, 1953, in Virginia, MN, to Albert and Carole (Wozniak) Hawkins.
 

Pete graduated from Cherry High School in 1972 and went on to dedicate himself to several local roles that made a difference in the lives around him. He was a proud Team Lead in U.S Steel’s agglomerator before transitioning to production truck driver and took his responsibilities seriously, always supporting the union to ensure fair labor practices. Pete was also the treasurer of the Sportsman Club in Mountain Iron, served on the Park & Recreation Board, and was the Supervisor of Great Scott Township, showcasing his dedication to public service.

In 1984, he married the love of his life, Suki Hawkins, and together they raised three wonderful children—Kristina, Danny, and Trevor. Pete was not just a father; he was a coach for hockey and baseball, a firearm safety instructor, as well as a Scout Master, helping to shape the lives of many young people in the area.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Pete loved hunting and fishing, spending countless hours in nature’s embrace. He had a zest for life that was infectious, and he made friends wherever he went.

Pete faced health challenges bravely and was a twenty-year stroke survivor. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Pete is survived by his wife: Suki; Children: Danny Hawkins, Trevor (Courtney) Hawkins and Kristina (Jamie) Hawkins; Mother: Carole Hawkins; Grandchildren: Isabella, Vincent and James; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by: Father; Albert “Hap” Hawkins; Brothers: Paul, Keith, Dennis and Scott
 

In celebration of Pete's life, we will hold a celebration of life at a date and time to be announced. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering a man who touched the lives of so many with his kindness and dedication. Details for the ceremony will be shared soon.
