Robert Allen Peterson

Robert Allen Peterson, age 86, of Virginia died Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in his home, of natural causes.  He was born November 12, 1938, in Virginia, MN the son of Alfred and Ann (Tomatz) Peterson.  He graduated from Mt Iron High School and served in the US Army.  In 1986 he married Janice Otis. 

Bob was a lifelong Virginia resident, working at Johnson Well Drilling, J&L Mining Co.; and as a millwright at Eveleth Taconite.  He served as the Union President of Local # 6860 and was a lifelong member of the Mt Iron American Legion.  He and Jan enjoyed traveling for many years in their RV, spending time with family, spending time at the cabin on Pelican Lake and building their home on Hart Lake in Pengilly.  Bob also loved to go grouse and deer hunting. 

Bob is survived by his children:  Alan (Jane) Peterson of Roseville, MN, Candace Erickson, Stephen Otis of Phoenix, AZ, Renee (Otis) Galaski of Virginia, MN, Terry (Heidi) Otis of Virginia, MN; Rose (Butch) Davis of Virginia, MN; grandchildren: Geoff Galaski, Bryan(John Hakala) Galaski, Shea (Whitney) Galaski, Jessica Otis, Jordan Benz, Austin (Petra Hagberg, fiancee) Benz; great-grandchildren: Gunnar Galaski, Avery Benz, and Addy Benz; brother: Edward (Kathy) Peterson of Eveleth, MN;  numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. 

He was preceded by his parents; his wife Jan; daughter: Dawn Bilbrey; son: Michael Otis; and siblings: Floyd Peterson and Larry Peterson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Mass on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia.  Reverend Father Brandon Moravitz will officiate.

The family wishes to thank Essentia Cardiac Rehab and the wonderful neighbors for their care of Bob.
