Bob McCarty, age 92, passed away on December 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born to Clarence S. and Elizabeth (Woolcock) McCarty in Eveleth, MN, on May 17, 1932, Bob lived a full and impactful life.

He attended Eveleth School, graduating in 1950. Bob then began his career at US Steel in 1950, pausing briefly to serve his country from January 1953 until December 1954. Upon his return, he resumed work at US Steel until January 1961. Bob later worked for various construction companies before embarking on a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in April 1991.

On December 3, 1960, Bob married Shirley Bement, and they shared 60 wonderful years together. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 0239 of Virginia, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4456 in Gilbert, MN.  Bob found joy in spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and enjoying quality moments at the cabin on Lake Vermillion. He loved attending his family’s sporting events, having coffee with friends, and frequenting McDonald's, Village Inn, and Kunnari’s. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his children: Alan (special friend Janine) McCarty and Jean (Kevin) Jalonen; grandchildren: Tricia McCarty Jalonen [Landin, Lorna, and Laekin], Katie (Dan) Kimmes [Ian, Owen, and Ayla], Justin Jalonen [Easton, Finn, and Olivia], Logan McCarty-Jalonen, Brandon McCarty, and Tyler(Allie) McCarty; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his great-great-grandchild, Baby Boy Kimmes, in May.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth; his beloved wife, Shirley; his son: Glen; and his siblings: Ken, baby boy, John, Ed, Clay, Ruth, Mabel, Bud, and Dorothy.

Please join family and friends to celebrate the life of Bob McCarty on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Visitation will start at 11 A.M., followed by a service at noon at the Virginia Elks Club.
