Roger Anthony Hobrle, age 87, of Port Orange, FL and formerly of Chicago, IL, and Hibbing, MN, died Friday, July 18, 2025, at Adventhealth in Daytona Beach, FL. He was born May 28, 1938, in Eveleth, MN, the son of Tony and Vienna (Sainio) Hobrle. He was a 1956 graduate of Hibbing High School where he excelled as a swimmer in both the individual 100-meter crawl and the closing swimmer on the 400-meter relay team that helped Hibbing win the State High School swimming championship title in 1956. He was a member of Hibbing Hqs Troop of the 194th Armor, Minnesota Army National Guard for both active and reserve duty.
Roger owned and operated his own sheet metal/HVAC shop in Chicago where he resided for 30 years. In the mid-1980’s he set up his won independent trucking company, specializing in “Flat Bed Specialty Freight.” In the 1990’s Roger and Sue moved to central Florida where he continued his trucking business. In the June 2001 edition of “Overdrive Magazine” Roger was selected as “Trucker of the Month” and a feature article was written about him. He was honored at Overdrive’s National meeting in Louisville, KY, for his years of effort and a job well done. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing where the Hobrles have been members for 77 years.
Roger is survived by his Companion: Sue Hartwig/Payton of Port Orange, FL; brothers: John W. (Dee) Hobrle of Carlisle, PA, and Thomas A. Hobrle of North Pole, AK; former brother-in-law: David Schwartz of Minneapolis, MN; Aunt: Patricia Jackson of Ingleside, IL; numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Roxanne “Dolly” Schwartz; and good friends: Roger Larson, Louis Collyard, and Dave Houghton.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 Noon Funeral Service, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. Pastor Katie Larson will officiate. Casual attire is encouraged by the family. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing with Military Honors Presented by the Mid-Range Honor Guard.
