Sharon Carlson Obituary

Sharon Lee Carlson, age 79 of Babbitt died Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Carefree Living in Babbitt. She was born October 13, 1943 in Blackduck, MN the daughter of Kenneth and Margaret (Hadlock) Clawson and was a graduate of Blackduck High School Class of 1961. In 1962, she married Darwin Lossing and they had their first child, Duane. The family moved to Babbitt in 1964, where Sharon got a job as a waitress at the Babbitt Cafe. In 1966, another child was born, Cynthia mae. A few years later, they opened up a Sears & Roebuck store in the Babbitt Shopping Center. Sharon excelled at running the store, and with her passion and drive, they soon grew out of the small rental space, and in the early 1970’s they built a new building that allowed her a showroom floor to display household appliances and other goods. A few years later, her marriage to Darwin ended. In 1975, she married her lifelong partner, Richard “Dick” Carlson. They moved to Webster Wisconsin and purchased Dick’s IGA. In 1982, they sold the grocery store and moved to the Minneapolis area and Sharon worked for IDS/Ameriprise Financial. She loved her job, and worked her way into a supervisory position which allowed her to travel for the company. Sharon retired from there in 2007. Upon retirement, Sharon and Dick purchased a retirement home in Babbitt and a home to winter in Texas. Dick was the father of three children, Tammy, Roxy, and Jimmy. Sharon loved them as her own. Spending time with all of her kids and grandchildren brought her much joy throughout her life. Sharon attended the Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt, was the longtime President of the Coon Rapids VFW Auxiliary, member of the Babbitt Business Women’s Association, and the Red Hat Society. She loved playing cards, the occasional trip to the casino, traveling, and spending winters in Texas.
