Thomas F. Roddy Jr., age 75, lifelong resident of Hibbing, transitioned from this earth to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Tom was born October 15, 1947, in Hibbing, the firstborn son of Thomas Sr. and Genevieve (Bernard) Roddy. He was a 1965 graduate of Hibbing High School and went on to complete the Hibbing Technical College Auto Mechanic Program.
Tom was a fun-loving Irishman with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He always said, “live each day like it was your last”. He will be missed by family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of cars – especially Plymouth Muscle Cars and the Dodge Charger. He was well-known for his excellence in his craft of auto-body repair and painting. He was grateful for family and good friends, and to be born and raised in the USA.
Tom was a member of the Chisholm Assembly of God church and the radio-controlled airplane club. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, boating, wood-working and wintering in Arizona. He loved his male English Bulldogs (to help him survive living with 3 women). Tom enjoyed being a Grandpa and watching his grandchildren grow up. He enjoyed all of their activities including band and choir concerts, and sporting events. Also having Grandsons help with yard work and giving rides on the riding lawnmower, over the last 23 years.
Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years: Kathleen Heffron Roddy; daughters: Kelly (Aaron) Donovan of Mesa, AZ, and Kerry (Steve) Hutchings of Balkan Township, MN; brother: Patrick Roddy of Hibbing, MN; sister: Ann (Paul Marinac) Roddy of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren: Luke, Erica and Olivia Hutchings, and Levi Donovan; nephew: Joseph (Liz) Marinac; niece: Catherine (Ben) Metcalf; great-nephew: Samuel Metcalf; great-nieces: Genevieve and Brynn Marinac and Olivia Metcalf; sisters-in-law: Colleen Lahti and her family, and Mary Lou(Tim) McKay; lifelong friends: Richard Stengline, Al Vine, Bill Scott, Steve Gibson, Johnny Christofferson and Dan Pappas; and the guys from the Tuesday night men’s Bible Study; and numerous friends, family and Church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Sr. and Genevieve Roddy; In-Laws: Thomas and Mary Heffron.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Chisholm Assembly of God Church. Pastor Micah Reed will officiate.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cardwell, Dr. Copeman, and Hospice Nurses Karly and Ann for their caring visits.
